We have always wanted to visit Parkroyal on Pickering. The hotel’s beautiful lush green exterior and the exquisite contour design is truly a sight to behold. A few weeks back, we finally had a chance to visit this hotel!
Location
Parkroyal’s location can be a hit or miss, depending on what you are looking for. On one hand, it is very near to Chinatown point, Hong Lim Food Complex, and MRT which makes it very convenient to buy food and beverages. On the other hand, this means that it is not going to be as peaceful and serene as other hotels.
Room
We chose the Urban Room for our staycation which is the standard room Parkroyal has. The room itself was very spacious and we could tell that the room was going for the Japanese minimalist vibe, with wood and the color white being the primary focus.
Similar to many higher-end hotels, the toilet and bathing area are separated. There is no bathtub for the Urban Room but if your budget permits, the higher tier options do come with a bathtub!
On a side note, the curtains are the button controlled, double-blinded kind which is really useful. In the morning, the thinner outer blind can be put down so that some sunlight can enter. During the night, both blinds can be put down to protect your privacy.
Pool
Due to the Covid-19 situation, guests are required to book their pool slots before heading down.
Along the pools, there are many small huts, similar to the one in the image above where guests can chill inside. There are 2 different pools there, one with aqua jets to massage your back and one regular pool but both are relatively small which was rather disappointing for a 5-star hotel.
One more gripe that we have is that the pool is right outside the gym. Some females may feel uncomfortable when the gym-goers (which are predominantly guys) are looking at you directly while running on the treadmills.
Conclusion
Parkroyal on Pickering is very conveniently located for us to travel and find food easily. The room is spacious and the interior design is top-notch. However, given the high price point, we were disappointed by the underwhelming swimming pools and the lack of a bathtub.
