Food hunt @ hong lim food complex, macpherson BBQ seafood and old airport road food centre

Hihi! Ready for your exciting weekly dose of YSKeats? This week’s journey is all about cheap food! (<$10)

So as all of you know, last Friday was a public holiday and Ice and I decided to go on a food hunt!! Nice right both of us, go on food trip so we can bring you the updates ;D

Old airport road food centre 炎记海鲜汤

So this is our first stop! As many of you may know of old airport food center because of the lor mee there due to its insane queue, this store is a hidden gem recommended by Ice herself!

We ordered the $6 seafood soup, and because we are lazy to peel the prawn, we changed the prawn to fish maw. You can also request to change to more fish or meat.

What can I say, it truly is a gem 😉 It is not the typical bland, slightly salty crappy seafood soup, IT IS RICH AND ADDICTIVE! The WOW factor is just there guys!

The minced meat they make is so unique as well! Soft and juicy, yummm!

Lastly, another notable mention is the fish! It is so fresh and springy!

Dip all of those in the chilli sauce and you’re one step closer to heaven!!!

Ice: I eat the normal seafood bowl with prawn usually with my parents, and the prawn is really big and fresh! The meat is definitely not the mushy kind of prawn, but the bouncy yummy ones!

Macpherson BBQ Seafood

Apparently, this store is quite famous and I have to admit, it is quite unique! Who serves bbq stingray/clams/sotong and rice??? Regular tze char stall doesn’t do that ya?

I actually stumbled upon this stall a few weeks back when my internship mentors brought us there for lunch and it was really good! So I decided why not bring Ice here to have a try! Let her see how does her lab’s lunch compare to my lunch muahaha :3

The clams are super big and juicy and the sauce they give is gao gao one (plentiful).

However, the stingray is quite meh.. (not very nice) The meat they give is like super thin and is quite dry tbh so try to avoid the stingray imo HAHA!

So far so good, all the food we tried are up to our expectations!

So this is our last stop! We wanted to try the curry chicken noodle on the first floor but it was closed… NOOOOO!! Another 烧腊 store beside this wanton noodle which has super good 烧肉 (roast pork) is closed as well.. So, we decided to try this wanton mee store that has 3 stalls?!

Must be super good right? Or so we thought.. When the food came, I was so excited and dug in but it’s a no go for both me and Ice. Not even the original wanton noodles sia.. It’s like some weird noodles that has poor texture. It’s not springy enough as a noodle too.

The char siew is meh as well.. Only the wanton was not bad? (Ice: i don’t like the wonton.. taste like meat ball rather than wanton)

Ohh ya the soup also has a weird taste, it’s like a bit too sweet, but not those soup should have the sweetness, but like sugar or something added. LOL just sell wanton sua!

The owner of the stall actually uses a machine to cook where she can set a timing and the ladle she put the noodles in will rise up when time is up. High tech sibo but sadly, it did not perform. This is just my opinion, you may disagree and go ahead and try (:

I have already sourced out a super good wanton noodles that has been around since I was a primary school kid. If I have the chance I will review on it soon!
