Hey guys! Happy Chinese New Year! Today, we will be reviewing this Taiwanese cafe named Typhoon. It is very conveniently located inside Plaza Singapura, which makes it extremely accessible. But how exactly does it taste and is it worth your money? Let’s find out.
Ambience
The whole place looks really average. However, do take note that they have events taking place there from time to time. On the day where we went, there was a representative from a Japanese makeup brand trying to sell their products and giving live demonstrations. It can prove to be disruptive if you love to dine in peace. Lastly, the cushioned chairs we were seating on were dirty as food stains could be seen.
Food
Perhaps the best dish out of all that we tried. It tasted just like how Taiwanese fried chicken should taste. However, it got very cloying after a while and we were unable to finish it. Also, I don’t think the sauce is Taiwanese style, and worse still, it does not go well with the fried chicken.
Real bad. The seasoning just seems like an entirely separate entity from the dumplings. This is actually quite a pity given that the dumpling itself was quite good. Not recommended.
Ahhh, this is the classic dish that everyone associates with Taiwan. According to Ice, she said that it tasted average, nothing spectacular. To me, it’s a no-go because I could clearly taste the cloves in the sauce. As someone who can’t stand cloves, it is a deal-breaker for me. On a side note, I never had this issue with any other lu rou fan that I have tasted.
The pork chop was too tough, which made eating it a chore. The noodles were just ok, tasted like an average bowl of wanton mee noodles. Simply put, this dish is not worth it.
Service
Below average. The waiter who took served us had an unhappy face and didn’t say a single word after serving us 4 dishes. Definitely not acceptable.
Conclusion
Typhoon cafe is just not worth it. The environment, service, and food are all subpar. If you are looking for a good Taiwanese restaurant, I highly recommend reading our review on Eat 3 Bowls.
