Tsui Wah Review [翠华]

Hey guys! Its Kayden back with another awesome review! Today we will be talking about the new kid in town (literally><) and it’s none other than Tsui Wah @ Heerens! Interested to find out whether it is worth your money? Let’s hop into it.

Ambience at Tsui Wah

Situated just beside the entrance of Heerens, Tsui Wah is definitely a hot spot for lunch/tea break after a session of intense shopping. It occupies 2 floors, where the first floor is non A/C and the second level with A/C. With the sun blazing right on us, Ice and I headed for the second level straightway HAHA!

Wowow! The second level is packed on a Saturday afternoon despite COVID-19 >< We registered in the queue via a tablet located outside the restaurant and had a short wait before we got a table. As seats were quite spaced out, it wasn’t too noisy which is a plus point for me!

Interior wise, it is just a very typical Chinese restaurant with nothing to rave about.

Food at Tsui Wah

The menu of Tsui Wah is quite interesting as it comes in the form of a newsletter. However, do take note that the varieties are very limited. (<60 items and <5 desserts) Moreover, many of their offerings are similar e.g. ma la mi xian with sliced chicken vs ma la mi xian with prawns, wanton mee vs wanton soup and the list goes on…

Hong Kong milk tea
Milk tea $3.50

Tried the highly raved about milk tea but truth to be told, it tastes just like any other Hong Kong milk tea. Not sure what the hype is even about …

Prawn wanton in fish soup
Wanton with shrimp roe in fish soup $8

The fish soup tasted okay but could definitely taste more MSG and pepper than 鱼的甜味 (freshness of the fish). However, the prawns used inside the wanton are very fresh and springy! This is a must order for me.

Toasted bun with a layer of condensed milk
Crispy bun with condensed milk $4

Ice ordered this and she said it was really good. To me, this falls in the same category as the milk tea. Many cafes can execute this to this standard. Try Tuk tuk cha’s iteration which is around the same price.

Ma la mi xian with sliced chicken
Ma la mi xian with sliced chicken $8

Possibly the worst dish imo. I’m no fan of the ma la smell but I wanted to try Tsui Wah’s iteration of ma la ( Such a good reviewer :’) ). Turns out it sucks so bad… It lacks the punch and oomph of the real ma la but yet, it turns non-ma la fans away as it still has the smell of it.

Service at Tsui Wah

Pretty standard, nothing to complain nor commend about.
