Sushi Airways

Hey guys! It’s Kayden back with another juicy review! Today, I’ll be offering my take on Sushi Airways, a sushi bar that offers a panoramic first class “flying” experience unlike any other, minus the turbulence.

I had always wanted to visit this restaurant after seeing its stellar 4.4⭐Google review, but the price always seemed to put me off. Now that I have tried it, I am not exactly disappointed, but neither am I impressed.

Ambience

As you enter the entrance, you’ll need to walk up a flight of metal stairs, like those leading to an aircraft. Be prepared to be awed when entering the cabin, designed to look like an actual aeroplane, which is a nice touch since we can’t travel overseas due to COVID-19 ):

Upon being seated, you will find this really cool plane boarding ticket on your table together with the menu. I would love to show mine here but unfortunately, I lost mine right after I reached home >.<

Food

Soft Shell Crab Maki

Softshell crab was well prepared, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. However, we did not enjoy this dish due to 2 reasons. Firstly, the softshell crab was in such huge chunks that we had trouble eating it. Next, the seaweed did not wrap the sushi properly which we had trouble picking it up. Hence, I would not recommend this maki.

Aburi Hotate

The hotate is very fresh, and sweet. When paired with the slight char-ness from the aburi, it gives the hotate an additional smokiness. If you are a hotate lover, I would recommend trying this dish!

Double Shake Roll

Simply put, the best dish of the night! The thickness and the torched flavour of the salmon were executed really well. The fried fish skin on top of each sushi also added an extra layer of texture that we found really pleasing to the tastebuds.

Scrolling through the reviews online, the double shake roll seemed to be the dish that is very well-received and in my opinion, definitely one to try.

Chocolate Cake

We wanted to order the uber dark chocolate cake on the menu, but it was sold out. Hence, the staff recommended the chocolate cake that supposedly tastes roughly the same. Upon eating the first mouth, I regretted ordering it. The cake was tough, and the chocolate seemed low quality.

Free Dessert

These were served to us for free, which we were pleasantly surprised! Given how cute and unique they look, we expected a mind-blowing experience, but both were just regular mochi with red bean filling…

Service

Other than the free dessert, the service was alright with nothing much to rave about. Considering the price point and the chic interior of this restaurant, the service level seemed subpar and definitely something that Sushi Airways should improve.
