Honey Night 꿀밤
Hi everyone! Ice is back with another food review! Today, I am going to review a great place for you to gather with your friends and have some drinks and decent meal to go with it – Honey Night 꿀밤
Honey Night serves great home-made korean food, which I am going to show you in awhile, and really tasty So-Maek (소맥), a beer cocktail made with soju and beer as well! You should really order this to go with your food when you are here!
Ambience
It is a small, cosy restaurant that is great for some gathering. It is not too quiet, yet not too noisy with overpowering music in the background – perfect place for you to gather and talk without feeling too awkward, or shouting at the top of your lungs.
Food
I love tteokbokki, and the tteokbokki here is really good! The rice cakes are soft yet chewy. The sauce is on the sweet side, and not really spicy. I think this makes a great starter, and also something that goes along well with alcohol.
Grilled pork belly is one of my favourites in korean meal, and is definitely one of the thing I will order when I eat KBBQ. The grilled pork belly is on the average side though. It is marinated nicely, but the meat is slightly on the tough side. But it still tastes really good when you dip it in the sauce and wrap it with lettuce. The sauce brings an additional slight spiciness and saltiness that complements well with the meat, and the crunchiness and lightness of the vegetables balance out the slight toughness and saltiness of the meat and the sauce.
Kimchi pancake is definitely MY FAVOURITE. Kayden can vouch for me as I will always ask to order kimchi pancake at any korean restaurant we go to. The kimchi pancake here is slightly on the soft side, but it is really good! The batter is not too thick, and there are lots of kimchi in it, making it really crunchy and slightly sour and savoury. I prefer crispy kimchi pancakes usually (as seen in this review here), but this is really good and we even ordered a second serving!
My friend ordered this mentai dumpling, which is surprisingly decent! The filling is quite juicy and flavourful, and the skin is slightly pan-fried to give its slight crispiness. However, it didn’t leave a deep impression in me, and I think you can give this a miss if you are not a hardcore fan of dumpling~
This. This was really really good! It is quite spicy at the start, but when you get to used to the spiciness, it is a sweet and savoury dish. The cheese did help to tone down a bit on the spiciness at the start too! The chicken is tender and nice as well. I think everything goes well in this dish, and it makes you go 1 mouth after another (can’t stop)
The kimchi fried rice was a disappointment to me though. The fried rice lacks flavour in it and was rather bland. Fortunately, mixing in the seaweed did help to make it taste better, but I think it should be more flavourful and fragrant. A pity though.
Fried chicken was average. Although the chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, it is something that did not leave a great impression and many other fried chickens outside can easily win it. I think this is something you can order if you intend to just get a beer and sit around to talk with your friends. Then, you can munch on this and it will go great with your drink!
In addition to the food, my friend got a honey beer for herself, and we got a so-maek to share!
The honey beer was rather bland and there was not much honey nor beer taste to it. So I would not recommend this. (on a side note, I am someone who does not like strong beer or alcohol, so if I say it’s bland, it’s basically like water to many people).
For the so-maek, we got the hite beer mixed with grape soju, and it was sooo good! It tastes like sweet grape beer, and goes well with lots of food! We even got a second tower, with the same flavour. I think this is a great alcohol to share with friends and family, so do try out this when you are there!
Service
Service is good and pretty fast as well! Waitresses are Korean though, so English may not be perfect, but they can still be understood, so communication is not a problem. When we tried to take a group picture, they even offered to help us to take it without us asking, and that is really nice of them!
Price: $$
Overall Rating: 3.5/5 – A decent place to hang out with friends and family, with great food and good drinks!
