Hey guys! It’s Kayden back with another fragrance review! Today, I’m going to talk about one of my top 3 summer fragrances, Xerjoff 1861 Renaissance. The 1861 line is one of the cheapest Xerjoff perfumes you can buy, but surprisingly, one of their best. For your information, Xerjoff’s fragrances are unisex so both genders can wear this.
Its top notes are: Amalfi lemon, tangerine, bergamot and petitgrain
Middle notes: mint, rose, lily-of-the-valley
Base notes: amber, musk, patchouli, cedar
Scent:
When I first put on this fragrance, I immediately pick up the citrus notes present in this fragrance which consists of lemon, bergamot, and tangerine. All 3 citruses are blended masterfully into a single entity with none really sticking out.
After 5-10 minutes, the mint, petitgrain, and other green floral notes start to surface, giving the fragrance an overall green vibe in addition to transforming the citrus into a glass of refined mojito.
After 30 minutes or so, sweetness from the amber comes out to play, giving the scent a tinge of sweetness. This, combined with the cedar and patchouli, gives Xerjoff Renaissance a really robust and regal structure.
Longevity and projection:
The bottle I have is the vintage formula but Xerjoff has since come up with a new bottle design (I think it’s uglier >.<)
However, from the reviews I have read online, the old and new bottle design does not affect the performance much so this review is definitely still relevant.
Longevity is very strong for a summer fragrance, lasting around 8 to 10 hours. As for the projection, this fragrance forms a nice scent bubble slightly more than an arm’s length away which is perfect for a regal scent. There is simply no need for a confident and cultured person to tell the whole world how successful he/she is, just like this fragrance.
Seasons and occasions:
I would definitely recommend this fragrance for spring and summer due to the strong citrus and mint notes which give off a very refreshing vibe. That being said, the strong performance of Xerjoff Renaissance definitely allows it to pierce through the autumn temperatures with ease.
The best place I can see Renaissance being worn is to the beach. Just imagine having a vacation by the beach, sipping on a glass of mojito, and just chilling. That is the dream, isn’t it?
Other than to the beach, I can see Xerjoff Renaissance being worn to more upscale occasions such as formal meetings, weddings, or nights out with friends. I would strongly recommend against wearing this to the gym or supermarket. As much as this is a citrus fragrance that brings with it a casual vibe, the price, the regal, and robust scent profile just don’t fit in with casual scenarios.
Conclusion:
If you are looking for a summer fragrance to wear to more formal occasions or the beach, this is it. I will also highly recommend this fragrance if you are looking for a niche summer fragrance that actually lasts.
I will not advise buying this fragrance as a first niche fragrance though. The scent is not overly complex or interesting, just a really refined and authentic mojito that doesn’t make you smell drunk.
If I were to compare this to Xerjoff Nio (another very popular summer fragrance), I would recommend Renaissance more. Nio is a tad too simple of a fragrance which is unacceptable for me, given the much higher price point.
