SKAI High Tea

SKAI is contemporary grill restaurant, situated on the 70th floor of Swissôtel The Stamford. However, instead of having their signature mains, we are there for their high tea set, which costs $65 per adult. Is the high tea really worth its price? Check out our review below!

Ambience at SKAI

Situated on the 70th floor of Swissôtel The Stamford, it provides a really beautiful skyscraper view of the town and downtown area. You can even spot MBS, esplanade, artscience museum and more.

Despite the pretty view, the restaurant is quite noisy as people gather in groups to chit-chat while having their high tea. So, if you are looking for a nice quiet place to have your high tea, then this might not be the best option.

Food at SKAI

We ordered the SKAI High Tea Set, which costs $65 per adult and comes with either a TWG tea or Suzuki Coffee, and a good selection of sweet and savoury pastries.

You can also top up to have free-flow champagne for 1.5hours, but we chose to have the TWG tea instead.

The high tea set comes with a good selection different savoury and sweet pastries, which are served in a nice 3-tier display stand.

Savoury

The high tea set comes with a good selection of savoury pastries. According to the Skai high-tea menu, there should be 7 savoury pastries. However, we were only served with 6 different kinds

The savoury pastries we got include (from left to right, top to bottom):
– Organic Egg Mayo with chives and truffle
– Crab in creme fraiche, with Ikura and pickled apple as toppings
– Shiitake with artichoke, radish on a choux (we are unsure if this is correct)
– Smoked Salmon with cream cheese, roe and lemon
– Foie Gras with shiso and plum jam in a beet bun

Generally, we did not really fancy the savoury pastry as it either did not taste fragrant and strong enough, or that it has a weird taste to it. I think TWG savoury pastry is much nicer in comparison.

Sweet

Moving on to the sweet pastries, we were served with 8 different sweet pastries, which include:
– SKAI Macaron
– Chocolate bonbons
– Pistachio Raspberry Tart
– White Cacao Bean
– Raspberry Cheesecake
– Chocolate Crunchy Cannoli
– Madagascar Vanilla Scones with Devonshire cream, strawberry jam, and apple marmalade
– Mushroom Quiche

We really liked some of the sweet pastries. I will just elaborate on the few pastries that we think is really nice and worth a try!

Pistachio Raspberry Tart

First up! The pistachio raspberry tart is really nice! It is made up of a tart crust, with sponge cake in it, topped with a raspberry jam and pistachio cream. The pistachio cream on top is really light and does not have a strong pistachio flavour (which is great for someone like me as I don’t really fancy strong pistachio flavours). I think that the tanginess and refreshing raspberry jam pairs well with the slightly sweet and fragrant pistachio cream and add a great flavour to the tart.

White Cacao Bean

Next up, this white cacao bean is a nice surprise! It is not too sweet, unlike the usual white chocolate that we are used to. The mellow sweetness from the white chocolate, combined with the light fluffy sponge cake is great and worth giving it a try!

Chocolate Crunchy Cannoli

This chocolate crunchy cannoli is really nice as well! This cannoli is a tube-shaped shell of deep-fried pastry dough, which tasted slightly hard, but I wonder if it is because we ate it the last few. It is filled with sweet and creamy filling, similar to that in an eclair.

Other than that, there are also small little crunchy chocolate balls in it. On top of the cannoli is a sweet biscuit, which really adds to the texture and flavour of the cannoli.

Madagascar Vanilla Scone

Lastly, the Madagascar Vanilla Scone, which sounds boring, but is definitely worth a try. The crispy and crumbly vanilla flavoured scone is dense and has a slightly sweet vanilla taste to it. Additionally, it goes really well with the apple marmalade and strawberry jam that comes with it, which are great as they are not too sweet nor too sour.

Service

The service is quite disappointing as they provide minimal service after guiding us to our seats.

Although I understand that it might be very crowded and they might be understaffed, I still think they should have provided a better service, especially with such a price.
